Using the Default Dashboard and Drilldown

Episode 1 of the "How to Zoined" series

Written by Zoined

In this first episode, Erik Marroni-Teir walks you through the Default Dashboard and shows how to use Drilldown to explore your data in more detail.

You’ll learn how to:

• Read key metrics at a glance

• Navigate the dashboard layout

• Drill into specific stores, products, or time periods

The Standard Dashboard is the first view you'll see after logging into Zoined. It provides an instant overview of your business by highlighting your most important KPIs, while allowing you to investigate the numbers in greater detail using the powerful Drill Down feature.

In this guide you'll learn how to:

  • Understand the Standard Dashboard

  • Interpret KPI widgets

  • Open the Drill Down view

  • Navigate through different business dimensions

  • Customize your drill down path

  • Return to previous levels

  • Open the full report for further analysis

The Standard Dashboard

After logging in, you'll arrive at the Standard Dashboard.

The dashboard contains several KPI widgets, each presenting a key business metric such as:

  • Sales

  • Sales Margin

  • Average Transaction Value

  • Sales (pcs)

  • and many more.

Each widget compares two different periods.

  • Blue represents your currently selected period.

  • Grey represents the comparison period.

For example, if the dashboard is configured to show Year to Date, the grey values display the corresponding period from the previous year.

This allows you to instantly see:

  • Current value

  • Previous value

  • Difference in value

  • Percentage change

The Standard Dashboard gives you a quick overview of how your business is performing before you start exploring the details.

The Drill Down

Use cases of the drill downs

1. Fixed drill downs

Fixed drill downs are preset and stored in the database and they will follow predefined logic such as: start from the “Store”, next level “Sales person” and then “Product category”.

2. Dynamic user driven Drill downs

Dynamic drill downs can follow preset logic from database but user can overdrive it with own selections by using “Drilling to:” - selection options.
Use will can use dynamic options in the user session when push “Apply” -button and user can store selected options to the profile when push “Save” -button

Benefits of the dynamic drill downs

Drill downs path is now visible and it will set dynamic filters that have made manually earlier. User selections can be temporary or can save to default.

The hierarchy tree doesn’t include the attribute level, in other words the features of the product (colour, size).

When you drill down into the fixed graphs by clicking the chart complies with this hierarchy:

  • Category

    • Category

    • Subcategory

    • Product

    • EAN code

  • Organization

    • Area

    • (Channel)

    • Store

    • Sales Person

  • Time

    • Year

    • (Quarter)

    • Month

    • (Week)

    • Day

    • Hour

Dynamic user configurable drill down paths.

Dynamic paths are set in the user interface during the user session and can be temporary or save to the default for the user.

Open the Drill Down View

Every KPI widget can be expanded.

To see more details:

  1. Locate the widget you want to analyze.

  2. Click the Drill Down arrow beneath the widget.

The widget expands into an interactive analysis view.

Understanding the Drill Down View

The Drill Down view lets you analyze the selected KPI by different business dimensions.

At the top of the chart you'll find several controls:

  • Grouping

  • Sorting

  • Drill Down

  • Values / Percentage

  • View Report

These controls allow you to investigate your data from different perspectives without leaving the dashboard.

Step 1: Choose the First Grouping

The first dropdown determines how the data is initially grouped.

For example, you might choose:

  • Region

  • Store

  • Salesperson

  • Product Category

  • Brand

  • Channel

In the example below, the data is grouped by Region, allowing you to compare sales performance between different regions.

Step 2: Sort the Results

The second dropdown controls the sorting order.

Available options include:

  • Metric Value (Descending)

  • Metric Value (Ascending)

  • Alphabetical Order

Most users prefer Metric Value (Descending), which displays the best-performing results first.

Step 3: Select the Drill Down Path

One of Zoined's most powerful features is the ability to define exactly how you want to explore your data.

Click the Drill Down selector to choose the next level of detail.

For example, if your first grouping is Region, you could drill down into:

  • Category

  • Product Group

  • Product Name

  • Colour

  • Brand

  • Salesperson

  • Hour

  • Channel

  • EAN Code

Click Apply to use the selected drill down path.

If you frequently use the same drill down, click Save to make it your default.

Step 4: Drill Into the Data

Once a drill down has been selected, simply click one of the bars in the chart.

Each click reveals another level of detail, allowing you to investigate exactly where your results are coming from.

This makes it easy to answer questions such as:

  • Which categories perform best in California?

  • Which products generate the highest sales?

  • Which colours are selling best?

  • Which individual EAN codes contribute most to revenue?

There is no fixed limit to how you explore your data—the path depends entirely on your business question.

View Values or Percentages

You can switch between two display modes at any time:

Values

Displays the actual metric value.

Example:

  • €52,430

  • 12,540 pcs

Percentage

Displays each item's share of the total.

This makes it easy to compare relative performance between categories.

Open the Full Report

If you need more space for analysis, click View Report.

This opens the complete report, where you can continue working with additional filtering, grouping, exports, and other report functionality.

Returning to Previous Levels

As you drill deeper into the data, Zoined keeps track of your navigation.

Use the Back button above the chart to return to the previous level.

You can continue stepping back until you return to your starting point.

You can also choose a completely different drill down path by selecting again a different grouping.

Example

Imagine you want to understand why sales have increased in one region.

You could follow a drill down path like this:

  1. Region

  2. Category

  3. Subcategory

  4. Product Name

  5. Colour

  6. EAN Code

Or perhaps you want to analyze employee performance:

  1. Salesperson

  2. Hour

  3. Category

  4. Product

Or compare online sales:

  1. Channel

  2. Product Category

  3. Product Name

The Drill Down feature adapts to your analysis, allowing you to explore your business from virtually any angle.
